Moving beyond Application Integration and SOA
Companies have been constantly reducing their response time to events that affect their Business. This move towards (near) real-time business operations has been referred to as the "Zero Latency Enterprise (ZLE)", or the "Real Time Enterprise (RTE)". In order to facilitate the RTE, IT managers have been under increasing pressure to migrate a portfolio of independent "stovepipe" applications to an integrated set of business services that can be aligned with changing Business requirements and support new Business processes faster and with reduced cost. The approaches for integration have gone through an evolution, starting with Application Integration, this has been followed by the adoption of Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs), well architected services make it feasible to address integration on an enterprise scale, moving us another step closer to the RTE. Business Process Management (BPM) can finally be integrated with SOA (or EDA), and it takes on new significance since it can automate the actions that are required when processing events.
